In 2007, the Sharing Community provided
700+ Over 700 different
single homeless individuals found shelter or housing with supportive
services — including nutritious meals, medical care, mental health and/or
substance abuse counseling, and case management services.
More than 155,000 different
nutritious meals were prepared and served to soup kitchen guests,
home-delivered meals recipients, shelter guests, and residents of our
various housing facilities.
Over 503 vouchers for
nutritious food were given to 71 different households in our Food Voucher
and Nutrition Education Program.
In 2007, over two hundred
different individuals and families at risk of becoming homeless were able to
retain their housing by The Sharing Community making either one-time
emergency payments, by providing ongoing shallow-rent subsidies or other
assistance.
Over 1,800 different
unsheltered homeless individuals were engaged by our HOST workers on the
streets of southwest Yonkers or at our Hudson Street site. Our workers
provided shelter referrals, domestic violence interventions, detox and
medical referrals, food pantry and food stamp assistance, and entitlements
advocacy.
Our street and community
outreach programs made more than 22,500 contacts to at-risk individuals in
our community, distributing HIV prevention packets, referrals to hospitals,
shelters or detox programs, or HIV testing.
The Upper Room (our HIV
drop-in center) and related programs engaged over 110 people infected or
affected by HIV/AIDS in ongoing case management, prevention education, and
support services.
